Temporal Extrude
Temporal Extrude splits time within a single frame — moving objects play in real-time while the background shows frames from the past. The result looks like subjects are being "extruded" forward through frozen time. Motion detection separates what moves from what stays still.
Tips
- Footage with a static camera and moving subject works best.
- High delay (20-40 frames) for dramatic time-displacement. Low (5-10) for subtle trails.
- Walking scenes create long frozen trails behind the subject.
- Combine with Datamosh for double-glitch chaos.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How does temporal extrude work?
- Moving parts of your video play normally while static areas show past frames. The tool detects motion and composites current and delayed frames together. The result is a time-displacement glitch effect.
- What kind of footage works best?
- Static camera with moving subjects: someone walking, dancing, or objects in motion. The background needs to be mostly still for the temporal split to be visible.
- Is temporal extrude the same as slit scan?
- Related but different. Slit scan displaces time per strip/column. Temporal extrude uses motion detection to split current vs delayed pixels across the whole frame. The visual results differ significantly.
- Is it free?
- Free, no watermark, no download. Browser-based.
